As a practitioner, I value collaboration with my patients and strive to be their partner in finding the balance that helps them live their lives to the fullest.

—  Pronouns: She/her  —

Born and raised in Budapest, my fascination with the human body started from an artistic point of view, having spent years drawing and studying anatomy. I came to the US in 2002 to study theatrical set and costume design, and worked in Chicago for several years while my interest slowly shifted towards the healing arts. What never changed was my preference to work in collaboration with others. I value collaboration with my patients and strive to be their partner in finding the balance that helps them live their lives to the fullest. I also truly enjoy the intellectual challenge of unraveling the puzzles of symptoms presenting in the body.

Creative Problem Solving and Working with Others

Starting out as a visual artist I have always relied on my intuition and been curious about the world around me. I grew up in Hungary with parents who worked for the national airline and I had the privilege to travel the world with them and be exposed to different cultures from a young age.

My fascination with the human body started from an artistic point of view, having spent years drawing and studying anatomy, learning to translate inner worlds into physical manifestations; be that on paper or through actors embodying characters on the stage. My original gravitation towards theater came from the combination of my artistic impulses and my preference for working in collaboration with others. To me, designing scenery or costumes meant creating worlds where the characters of a play can come alive, interact, and tell their story.

The way I approach my practice is similar: I value collaboration with my patients and strive to be their partner in finding the balance that helps them live their lives to the fullest. I also truly enjoy the intellectual challenge of unraveling the puzzles of symptoms presenting in the body. Some of my favorite things to treat are internal medicine, women’s health and emotional conditions.

Personal Healing Journey

While the realization of my dream of becoming a professional designer and artist filled me with a sense of fulfillment, I coincidentally developed a tendency towards sacrificing my physical, emotional, and spiritual self in order to succeed—a pattern not unfamiliar to any of us living in this day and age.

The philosophy and practice of Zen Shiatsu and Chinese medicine provided me with perspective and healing during these times, and guided me through a journey of self-discovery.

Praise For Marianna

AG

I don't even know how to begin describing how amazing Transformational Acupuncture is. There simply aren't enough superlatives in the English language! I had been going to acupuncture for a year before switching to this clinic and I'm so happy I did. Everyone is so warm, friendly, and inviting and the ambiance in the space is tranquil and calming -- the perfect place for healing physically and emotionally.

I go to Marianna and to say that she works miracles is the understatement of the century! She is so knowledgeable, caring, and skilled. She also prescribed Chinese herbs for some of my issues and it has absolutely changed my life. I have sessions several times a week and they have become a sacred part of my self-care ritual.

Not only that, it's super easy to submit your health history and insurance forms through the website as a new patient and booking appointments online is a breeze. I also love that I can always find parking, which makes getting to the clinic way less stressful. They have gift cards, too -- holiday shopping just got way easier for me! 😉

Also, shout-out to Erin who is the loveliest front desk hostess!

I tell everyone who will listen (even random strangers!) about this place. Stop what you're doing immediately and go to Transformational Acupuncture!

Education & Training

Beginning with Zen Shiatsu

My first exposure to East-Asian Medicine was through Zen Shiatsu bodywork. During the transitional years of my freelance designer phase I was seeking out various methods of holistic self-care—yoga, meditation, and the bodywork therapy that somehow manages to infuse the benefits of the two: shiatsu. The philosophy behind this healing art resonated with me so much, I decided to complete the full two year training program at Zen Shiatsu Chicago and became a certified practitioner.

Onward to Acupuncture School and beyond

After a couple of years of practicing as a shiatsu practitioner, I followed the passion for holistic healing to gain an education in Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago. There I was exposed to the foundations of both Western and Eastern Medicine through a program fostering an integrative and holistic approach to healthcare.

I trained in various styles of acupuncture, including Japanese Meridian Therapy, and herbal medicine. I completed two semesters as an intern at Chicago Women’s Health Center, which sparked my interest in women’s health. Another formative experience as a practitioner was following one of my mentors, Dr. Lixin Sha in her practice. There I got to see the capacity of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in supporting people in various stages of life ranging from fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum care through minor colds and injuries to the more serious health issues patients face throughout their lives.

What drew me to Chinese Medicine is its capacity to treat people on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. It never ceases to amaze me to see the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) transformations patients can go through with the help of this medicine.
