Cupping Aftercare

Cupping therapy uses suction and negative pressure to relax muscles, improve circulation, and calm the nervous system. It is commonly used to treat muscle aches and pains but has a long tradition of being applied in cases of digestive issues, anxiety, insomnia, and congestion. By promoting circulation, cupping can enhance the body’s natural detoxification processes, aiding in healing and recovery.

To get the most benefits of this therapy and remain comfortable, follow these cupping aftercare instructions:

  • Keep the treated area (most likely your back and neck) covered, dry, and warm. Avoid wind, cold, and dampness.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and baths for the next two days. A hot shower is OK, but don’t linger.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Drink plenty of water over the next 12-24 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol for the next two days.
  • Rest and allow your body to heal.

Cupping Therapy Detox Symptoms

Potential symptoms of the detoxification that comes with cupping therapy can be soreness, exacerbation of pain, or the experience of difficult emotions. These are temporary and, ultimately, a useful aspect of the treatment.

Cupping Marks

The cupping marks typically fade within a week, but can sometimes take longer (especially if it’s your first treatment). If you have any questions, please give us a call at (202) 297-7404
