Electroacupuncture Treatments

E-stim combines the practices of traditional acupuncture with an electrical current to heal your body from the inside out.

Ancient Therapies and Modern Techniques

Acupuncture has been a part of Chinese medicine for thousands of years, but during the 1930s in China, acupuncturists began combining this practice with an electrical current. While this therapy is newer in comparison, it still aligns with the beliefs of traditional Chinese medicine. Electroacupuncture (e-stim), just like acupuncture, aims to promote the flow of qi in an effort to bring harmony to the entire body.

E-Stim Benefits

The benefits of electroacupuncture treatments are identical to those of traditional acupuncture: improved blood flow, removal of blood stasis, muscle warmth, and pain relief. Some patients may experience increased results with e-stim, and some patients may just prefer the added stimulation.

The effects of e-stim bring relief to specific issues, but also benefit broader issues related to both physical and mental health. The benefits of rebalancing the energies in the body radiate through your whole system.

Electroacupuncture Treatments We Offer

E-stim therapy might sound intimidating at first, but we make every effort to make you feel informed and relaxed. We’ll discuss your medical history and health goals with you before you start e-stim treatment so we can create a custom plan for your specific condition and needs. Our recommendations will vary, but we’ll walk you through the entire process and answer any questions you may have.

Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture Therapy

E-stim treatments are generally like any other acupuncture treatment, just with the added stimulation of a low-voltage electrical current. Clips are attached to the needles once they are inplace. Then the current flows between two acupuncture needles to stimulate the flow of qi.

During treatment, patients can expect to have acupuncture needles placed on the arms, elbows, wrists, hands, legs, hips, knees, ankles, feet, neck, lower back, shoulders, or abdomen for a period between 5 to 30 minutes. The pulses can be continuous or intermittent.

I strongly recommend Transformation Acupuncture

Adam has always been very professional, gentle, and effective. I have suffered with arthritis in my knee and piriformis syndrome. His acupuncture and e-Stim were both important to my therapy to decrease pain and discomfort. His place of practice is very calming and sanitized. He and all his staff are vaccinated for COVID as should be during this pandemic. I strongly recommend Transformation Acupuncture and am grateful for my experience and treatment there.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Electroacupuncture?

Electroacupuncture is very similar to a traditional acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture treatments involve the placement of needles along the body’s meridians. The needles stimulate points on or under the skin called acupuncture points or acupressure points, to release qi. During an electroacupuncture treatment, clips are placed on the needles allowing an electrical current to increase the flow of qi.

What is E-Stim Therapy?

E-stim therapy is the combination of acupuncture and an electric current used to treat a number of conditions and symptoms.

Does Electroacupuncture Work?

Electroacupuncture has been used for the past century to treat a number of conditions, while traditional acupuncture has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years. The fact that this Chinese medicine is still used and has spread all over the world as a healing practice directly speaks to the validity and importance of this medicine. Of course, we also hear the benefits from our very own patients!

We can see the results in our patients ourselves, but we also hear about their improvements from them as they progress. Of course, the goals and also results of treatments differ from patient to patient. We’ve seen some patients experience results in as little as 3-6 treatments, but have also treated patients that needed therapy for 6 or more months.

How Does Electroacupuncture Work?

Like acupuncture, electroacupuncture is linked to the belief that disease is caused by disruptions to the flow of energy, or qi, in the body. Acupuncture stimulates points on or under the skin to restore and/or improve the flow of qi. The addition of an electrical current further stimulates this flow. This release of qi brings relief to the conditions or symptoms that were targeted during treatment.

What is Electroacupuncture Used For?

Electroacupuncture can be used to bring relief to a great many symptoms and conditions. Anything you would go to our primary care physician for can likely be treated with acupuncture, and electroacupuncture may be applicable for some of those conditions. Some of the most common conditions patients use electroacupuncture for include acute and chronic pain, erectile dysfunction, labor support, promoting labor, and injury recovery. We will take a medical history before your first treatment to ensure e-stim is right for you.

Is Electroacupuncture Safe?

Yes, electroacupuncture is  a safe therapy for most patients. However, it is not appropriate for every patient or for the treatment of certain conditions. Your practitioner will discuss your medical history with you to determine if e-stim is right for you.

What is the Difference Between Electroacupuncture and Acupuncture?

Acupuncture and electroacupuncture are very similar. The difference is that e-stim involves sending an electrical current through the needles.
