Fertility Issues We Can Help You With

We believe that every aspect of your health is connected. Focusing on improving your overall health, whether you are struggling with fertility, dealing with stress, going through IUI or IVF, concerned about low sperm count, or other issues with male-factor fertility, such as sperm morphology or motility, we will help treat not only your physical concerns, but your emotional and mental health as well. We are here to support you every step of the way and help give you a natural path to help you and your child.

How We Support Your Fertility

The fertility journey is one that can be full of joy, but a great many individuals and couples can experience difficulty in conceiving. Issues can be related to a woman’s reproductive organs, a man’s ability to produce enough healthy sperm, or other factors such as high stress or obesity. We will work with you to design a treatment plan that addresses any and all issues you may be experiencing so you can get back to focusing on the joy of this special time.

Acupuncture for Fertility in Both Women and Men

Acupuncture helps regulate the entire monthly cycle, normalizing blood flow to reduce any negative symptoms related to the menses. Egg and sperm quality are improved by increasing the blood flow to the reproductive organs. Acupuncture treatments also lend additional support to those undergoing IUI or IVF treatments.

You can begin acupuncture treatment at any time, but it is recommended to at least start when you decide you want to conceive or 3-6 months prior to an IVF cycle. During treatment, patients can expect to have acupuncture needles placed on the lower abdomen between the naval and pubic bone, on the lower legs, wrists, and sometimes elsewhere, such as the upper abdomen, head, and ears.

Patients are encouraged to come for sessions weekly. Weekly sessions are also recommended for those undergoing IVF, but we will adjust for an embryo transfer, including sessions the day before and after a transfer.

Chinese Herbs for Fertility

Taking Chinese herb formulas for fertility is a great way to naturally support your conception. We may recommend a variety of dietary supplements such as fish oil, CoQ10, DHEA, preconception/prenatal vitamin, melatonin supplement, or men’s conception supplement, but each formula is completely customized medicine that is developed for each individual patient. The formulas are most typically used to promote the movement of qi and blood, providing the body with necessary nutrients and rebalancing hormonal levels to increase the chances of conception.

Male patients wanting to increase fertility will be on one Chinese herbal formula plus a men’s conception supplement. Female patients will be on two Chinese herbal formulas and a custom combination of fish oil, CoQ10, DHEA, preconception/prenatal vitamin, and/or melatonin supplement

To maximize the effectiveness of a patient’s treatment, it is recommended that Chinese herbal medicine be combined with acupuncture treatments. Those that take this approach typically experience increased improvement of their symptoms, quicker results, and more sustained results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Acupuncture Work for Fertility?

Yes, our clinic has had great success with helping patients conceive. We have helped those patients who are trying to conceive naturally and those undergoing fertility treatments such as IUI or IVF. In some cases, our patients have become pregnant within 3-6 months of beginning acupuncture.

How Does Acupuncture Help Fertility?

Acupuncture helps with fertility by stabilizing the entire monthly cycle and regulating hormonal imbalances. Treatments improve egg and sperm quality by increasing blood flow to reproductive organs. Acupuncture also reduces negative symptoms related to the menses and adds additional support for those undergoing IUI or IVF treatments.

When Should You Get Acupuncture for Fertility?

Acupuncture treatments for fertility would ideally start as soon as you are ready to conceive, but can start at any point along your journey. Treatments are for both women and men, those conceiving naturally and those undergoing IUI or IVF treatments.

For women, treatments will help improve chances of conceiving by regulating blood flow, stabilizing any hormonal imbalances, and addressing other issues that might be impacting fertility. For men, acupuncture will improve sperm quality by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs and also address other issues that might be impacting fertility.

How Long Does Acupuncture Take for Fertility?

To reach the ultimate goal of a successful pregnancy, expect to have weekly acupuncture treatments for a minimum of six months.

Does Acupuncture Work for Fertility Without IVF?

Yes, many patients who are trying to conceive naturally seek out acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. However, it is important to note that some patients, especially older patients, may need the assistance of a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility doctor).

We have relationships with all the fertility clinics in the Washington DC metro area and can make recommendations for one that fits your specific situation and needs.

Can Acupuncture Help Male Fertility?

Yes, acupuncture can increase male fertility. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine helps to boost male fertility by improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, thereby improving sperm morphology, motility, and count.

Men will need to be seen weekly for a minimum of 6-12 months to experience results. Since results are based on sperm analysis, men will need to be under the care of a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility doctor). We have relationships with all the fertility clinics in the Washington DC metro area and can make recommendations for one that fits your specific situation and needs.

Is Cupping Good for Fertility?

We generally avoid cupping for our fertility patients. However, there are rare circumstances, such as back tension, where cupping may be appropriate to increase blood flow, reduce tension, and lower stress.
