A Short Introduction
I am a Virginia- and DC-licensed acupuncturist with more than ten years of clinical experience in hospital and outpatient settings. My training began in China, where I completed extensive hospital-based residency, and continues through my academic and research work in the United States.
I earned my PhD in Chinese Materia Medica from the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and completed postdoctoral research at Georgetown University Medical Center. My research has focused on Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture, and I have authored more than 40 peer-reviewed academic publications. I have also served as Principal Investigator on multiple nationally funded research projects and was recognized among the top 2% of contributing authors in my field.
While I value rigorous research and scientific advancement, my greatest priority is applying that knowledge in a way that meaningfully improves my patients’ lives. I specialize in chronic pain, musculoskeletal conditions, stress and anxiety, and women’s health. My approach combines classical Chinese medicine with modern clinical standards, ensuring treatments are both deeply rooted in tradition and aligned with evidence-based care.
Fluent in English and Mandarin, I strive to create a welcoming, thoughtful environment where patients feel heard, understood, and actively involved in their healing process.
My Education in Acupuncture
My medical education began at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where I completed my Master of Acupuncture and Moxibustion degree. My training included acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, internal medicine, gynecology, and orthopedics, along with extensive supervised clinical rotations. This rigorous foundation immersed me in both classical theory and hands-on patient care, shaping the way I assess patterns and develop precise treatment strategies.
After completing my doctoral-level medical training, I pursued advanced specialization in herbal medicine and earned my PhD in Chinese Materia Medica from the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. My doctoral research focused on herbal pharmacology, deepening my understanding of the mechanisms, safety, and clinical applications of traditional formulas. During this time, I authored more than 40 peer-reviewed academic publications and was selected among the top 2% of contributing authors in my field. I also served as Principal Investigator on multiple nationally funded research projects.
Following my PhD, I completed postdoctoral research at Georgetown University Medical Center, where I continued investigating acupuncture and herbal medicine within an integrative medical framework. This experience strengthened my ability to bridge classical Chinese medicine with modern scientific research, ensuring my clinical practice is both traditionally grounded and evidence-informed.
In addition to my academic training, I completed hospital-based residency training, where I treated high volumes of patients with complex and chronic conditions. I am licensed to practice acupuncture in Virginia and the District of Columbia, nationally certified by the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM), and hold licensure as a physician in China.
My education continues through ongoing study, clinical experience, and research — because Chinese medicine is a lifelong path of learning.
My Patients
I work with patients experiencing chronic pain, musculoskeletal conditions, stress-related disorders, women’s health concerns, and internal medicine conditions. Many of my patients come to me after living with discomfort for months, or even years. Some are managing high levels of stress or anxiety. Others are navigating hormonal changes, fatigue, or persistent pain that has not fully responded to other treatments.
My hospital training taught me to treat complex and chronic cases with clarity and confidence. I take time to perform a thorough intake, identify the underlying pattern, and explain my diagnostic thinking so you understand what is happening in your body.
I believe patients heal best when they feel heard and supported. My goal is not only to reduce symptoms but to improve function, resilience, and overall quality of life.
I Would Like to Specialize In…
While I treat a broad range of conditions, I am especially passionate about continuing to deepen my work in chronic pain management, women’s health, and integrative care for stress-related and inflammatory conditions.
With my background in research and hospital-based medicine, I am particularly interested in contributing to the integration of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine into broader healthcare systems. I am committed to advancing evidence-informed practice while preserving the depth and integrity of classical Chinese medicine.
As my career continues to evolve, I aim to bridge clinical excellence, research innovation, and compassionate patient care.
My Passion and Training in Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine is one of the most powerful and sophisticated therapeutic systems in the world. After earning my Doctor of Chinese Medicine degree, I pursued advanced doctoral training and obtained my PhD in Chinese Materia Medica from the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.
My research focused on herbal pharmacology and acupuncture, and I have authored and co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed academic publications. I have also served as Principal Investigator on multiple nationally funded research projects. This experience strengthened my ability to evaluate safety, effectiveness, and mechanisms of action in herbal medicine.
However, herbal medicine is not just academic for me — it is deeply practical. Each formula I prescribe is carefully customized based on pattern differentiation and the patient’s overall presentation. I combine classical formula knowledge with modern research insight to ensure treatments are both safe and effective.
My Favorite Herb Is…
One of my favorite herbs is Xuan Fu Hua (Inula flower). In classical Chinese medicine, Xuan Fu Hua is known for directing rebellious Qi downward, transforming phlegm, and supporting the Lung and Stomach systems.
I appreciate this herb because of its precision and intelligence. It is not flashy or overly strong, yet when used correctly, it gently restores proper movement within the body. Many conditions — from cough and respiratory congestion to digestive discomfort and nausea — are rooted in Qi that is not descending properly. Xuan Fu Hua reminds me that healing often comes from restoring natural direction and flow rather than forcing change.
To me, it represents the elegance of Chinese medicine: understanding the body’s patterns deeply and guiding it back into balance with subtle, intentional intervention.
